About Yonkers

Yonkers offers a terrific lifestyle for families, young professionals, seniors or those just passing through. The city boasts dozens of diverse neighborhoods offering quiet, residential, tree-lined streets, vibrant city living and everything in between. From our 4.5 miles of waterfront, to our golf courses and pools, to our parks and historic sites, to our shopping and entertainment venues, there’s always something to do in Yonkers.

Yonkers's downtown is centered on a plaza known as Getty Square, where the city government is located. Major shopping areas are located in Getty Square, on South Broadway, at the Cross County Shopping Center, Westchester's Ridge Hill, and along Central Park Avenue.

A highlight in the downtown is the state-of-the-art Riverfront Library situated across the street from the fully restored Yonkers Train Station, designed by the same architects who designed Grand Central Terminal. Outside the train station, visit the park honoring Yonkers resident “Ella Fitzgerald: The First Lady of Song.”

But it's not just downtown; the city is home to several attractions, including access to the Hudson River, Tibbetts Brook Park, with its public pool with slides and lazy river and two-mile walking loop Untermyer Park; Hudson River Museum; Saw Mill River daylighting; Science Barge; and Sherwood House.

The waterfront's 19th and 20th century industrial heritage is being honored as new communities in which to live, work, and play are taking shape. Historical buildings are being restored and repurposed. Arts, entertainment, restaurants, and residences are injecting renewed energy into the downtown.

Yonkers is known as the "City of Seven Hills", which includes Park, Nodine, Ridge, Cross, Locust, Glen, and Church hills.
